Jenoptik supplies traffic safety systems to Lithuania

Further increase in the order intake of the Traffic Solutions division

(pressebox) Jena, 03.09.2008 - The Jenoptik Group has been awarded an international order valued at just over 4 million euros to supply stationary and mobile radar systems and, as a result, is continuing to expand its position as a global leader in equipment for traffic safety systems. The majority of the order for the Robot systems will be delivered during the course of 2008.

During the course of this year state-of-the-art traffic safety systems from Jenoptik's Traffic Solutions division will be installed on Lithuania's roads. With the supply of approx. 150 stationary and mobile radar systems the Thuringia-based optoelectronics group is continuing to expand its position as a leading provider of state-of-the art monitoring systems in Eastern Europe as well. This international order sees the continuation of the upturn in the international equipment market. Recent months have seen a marked increase in the order intakes of the Jenoptik Traffic Solutions division for equipment, particularly from abroad.

In particular, the increase in the volume of traffic in Lithuania, as a result of the constant rise in the number of vehicles, has led to an increasing number of accidents over recent years. According to statistics, with 220 road deaths per one million inhabitants, Lithuania has a poor rating for accident statistics within the European Union.

This is intended to change in the future. The client for the Jenoptik monitoring systems is the "Lithuanian Road Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania", a company that was set up by the Lithuania government and whose primary objective is to improve road safety.

Jenoptik's Traffic Safety Systems division has already had a presence in Lithuania for several years. The country already uses previous generation stationary and mobile systems as well as laser systems for mobile traffic monitoring, amongst others.
