Comfone secures Chairmanship at MEF EMEA BOARD
Bern, Switzerland, 19 June, 2009 – The board of the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) in the European, Middle Eastern and African regions has voted to elect Comfone’s EVP Sales & Marketing, Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg, as Chairman following the departure of former Chairman Gerard Grech.
From the outset, Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg has been an active supporter for MEF EMEA’s activities and has been elected as MEF Vice-Chairman for the last two consecutive years. Prior to joining the board, he headed up MEF’s mobile TV initiative and was responsible for the membership consultation on the controversial EU Television Without Frontiers Directive. He has represented MEF at industry conferences and supported events in London, Istanbul and Dubai.
In his position of EVP Sales & Marketing at Comfone, Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg represents the worldwide roaming/hubbing specialist with its existing and prospective customer base in over 130 countries. Comfone, as an active supporter of various industry associations, is pleased to be prominently positioned in a chairing role at the MEF’s EMEA board. “The EMEA board is rich in regional and mobile media expertise and I am excited about the prospect of continuing to work with them to share knowledge and stimulate trade development across this diverse region,” said Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg.
“I am delighted that the succession at MEF EMEA has been so smooth, with such an excellent and experienced new leadership. Launched in November 2006, the chapter’s remit was extended to cover the Middle Eastern and African regions in 2008. Since inception, the chapter has responded to vital areas of European policy – over 20 issues - including the Byron Review, Audiovisual Media Services Directive and Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. It has also organised more than 15 trade development events and entered brand new regions such as Turkey, Russia and the Middle East; and most recently set up an EMEA regulatory committee with 30 members signing up to date.
