"Smart City - Empowering Governments to Build" Project Wins Most Innovative Catalyst Award at TM Forum's Digital Disruption 2014

ISPM, a leading vendor of flexible service assurance, orchestration and management software for telecommunications and IT infrastructure, today announced that the Catalyst Project "Smart City - Empowering Governments to Build" has been named as a Digital Disruption 2014 Catalyst Award Winner at TM Forum's recent Digital Disruption event in San Jose, Calif.

The project - delivered via a collaborative team of digital industry leaders, including ISPM, Verizon, China Telecom, Telefonica, ESRI and BaseN - won the "Most Innovative Catalyst" award and was singled out for its contribution to the evolution of Frameworx standards to meet the challenges of designing and implementing smart city initiatives.

Smart city projects are set to make significant contributions to society and business, bringing new services to communities across the world. Many projects begin with a single service but they will evolve to support many thousands of different services and capabilities. Each new service adds an additional layer of complexity. That's why flexible service orchestration and assurance solutions are critical to their success. ISPM has led the way in the application of TM Forum's Frameworx suite of best practices and standards to smart city solutions.

"It's a great honour to have won this award," said Bruno Musa, Product Director at ISPM. "In collaboration with the other project members, we've shown how Frameworx can be extended to smart city initiatives and support complex service scenarios. The results demonstrate how the complexity and risk of managing and launching new services in smart city projects can be significantly reduced."

The project successfully determined mapping between Frameworx and city profile definitions and was validated with live services in Águas de São Pedro, a city in Brazil currently undergoing smart city transformation to bring new digital services to citizens and businesses.

The project has been initiated to coincide with the modernisation of the city's telecommunications infrastructure. In addition to the provision of high-speed broadband connectivity to citizens and businesses, digital solutions will be designed and delivered to assist in education, health, tourism and public spaces, among other areas.

ISPM's NetVision IoT solution consolidates service orchestration and assurance for the current and future range of digital services into a single platform, with the result that new services can easily be added to the portfolio.

NetVision IoT also provides problem management processes for service and resource issues. The identification of problems can be reactive, in response to reports from end users; or proactive, based on events collected in real-time, which enables automatic root cause analysis of problems and advance notification of potential issues that could arise.
