New TMR Sensors for more Energy Efficiency

(PresseBox) (Lahnau, )
Sensitec has developed innovative sensors based on the tunnelmagnetoresistive (TMR) effect which provides better temperature stability and allows energy efficient sensor designs. These sensors reduce the power consumption by a factor 100 compared to conventional sensors. Sensitec has defined two new TMR product families for angle measurement as well as length and position measurement.

The new TA900 sensors feature the so called FreePitch technology. That means they can be applied independently of fixed pole pitches and can be used for the absolute measurement of short movements using a dipole magnet or for 360 ° angle measurement at the shaft circumference or the shaft end. In addition to high temperature stability they can offer high accuracy and a large air gap between sensor and measurement scale.

The TL900 sensor family has been developed for applications using active measurement scales such as measurement scales or pole rings. The sensors are designed to be mounted at the edge of a printed circuit board or similar substrate and are ideal for off-axis, radial measurement configurations. They feature the PerfectWave design which suppresses higher harmonics in the output signal to provide both excellent linear or angular measurement and a high signal quality.

Due to the low power consumption both sensor families are especially well suited for applications which are operated by means of battery or powered by energy harvesting. Furthermore, they are also convenient for EX-protection applications. Other typical applications are incremental and absolute linear or angle encoders, respectively, motor feedback systems, microscope tables or fast rotational measurement.

With the new TMR sensors Sensitec was nominated as one of the three finalists in the competition „Hesse Champions 2015“.
