Unerwartete Wasserstoffdichte in Metallhydrid

Ein Forscherteam aus der Schweiz, den USA und Polen hat eine einzigartig hohe Dichte von Wasserstoffatomen in einem Metallhydrid nachgewiesen. Die kleineren Abstände zwischen den Atomen könnten es ermöglichen, deutlich mehr Wasserstoff in das Material zu packen – bis zu einem Punkt, an dem es bei Raumtemperatur und Normaldruck zum Supraleiter werden könnte.

Die Wissenschaftler führten im «Oak Ridge National Laboratory» (ORNL) im US-Bundesstaat Tennessee Neutronenstreuexperimente an Zirkonium-Vanadium-Hydrid bei atmosphärischem Druck und bei Temperaturen von bis zu -23 Grad Celsius durch.
