Die russische Nachrichtenagentur Interfax hatte am Freitag, 8. Juni, mit Bezug auf einen ungenannten Banker gemeldet, ThyssenKrupp führe Gespräche über eine Fusion mit dem russischen Stahlhersteller Severstal oder mit U.S. Steel.

Hierzu erklärt ThyssenKrupp:
Diese Meldung ist falsch und absolut unzutreffend. ThyssenKrupp führt keine Gespräche über eine Kooperation oder einen Zusammenschluß mit Severstal oder U.S. Steel.

Erst im Mai hatte der Aufsichtsrat von ThyssenKrupp der Investition von 3,1 Mrd € für ein gemeinsam betriebenes Stahlwerk der Segmente Steel und Stainless in Mount Vernon im US-Bundesstaat Alabama zugestimmt. Das Werk soll 2010 den Betrieb aufnehmen.
