(pressebox) (Düsseldorf/Hamburg, 2011-07-14) On June 28, DVS - Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V. (German Welding Society) and Messe Essen GmbH held a status discussion about sustainability in joining technology. Experts and journalists congregated on the premises of Linde AG in Hamburg in order to discuss the subjects of the energy mix and mobility in the future from the viewpoint of materials and joining technology. "No matter whether renewable energies or mobility in the future: Without joining technology, there's no such thing as sustainability," DVS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Klaus Middeldorf got to the heart of the subject at the beginning of the event.
"The turning point in energy policy is not a long way off. It is already taking place. Because capital is flowing into this sector," Ernst Miklos from Linde reaffirms the relevance of the subject. "In 2010, 243 billion dollars was spent on renewable energies worldwide, not including public funds. 60 percent of this volume of money is being invested in wind power installations, solar energy and biofuel installations," according to the Development Manager of the 'Manufacturing Industries' division. "The abandonment of nuclear energy is resulting in totally new challenges with regard to the energy generation in Germany. Joining technology will make a decisive contribution to this new energy mix which will safeguard Germany's competitiveness and a large number of jobs in the long term," Middeldorf declares in addition.
Which sustainable solutions joining technology already offers today will be shown by the DVS Congress and the DVS Expo in Hamburg on September 26 - 29, 2011. Moreover, the International Thermal Spray Conference & Exposition (ITSC) 2011 will highlight the latest developments of thermal coatings within the framework of the DVS Congress.
With regard to sustainability in joining technology, DVS has published a detailed status paper in collaboration with co-operating companies. This document includes the central developments relating to sustainability in the field of joining technology.
