(pressebox) (Düsseldorf, 2011-09-07) Rheinmetall Defence will continue to assist in training German Air Force Eurofighter pilots. Together with the companies CAE Elektronik GmbH and Cassidian, the Group has just been awarded a contract for the upkeep, maintenance and repair of the German Air Force's Eurofighter fight simulators, extending longstanding, successful public-private cooperation in this field.

Among other things, the order encompasses the upkeep, maintenance and repair of a total of six Eurofighter flight simulators in Rostock-Laage, Neuburg an der Donau and Nörvenich. In addition, Rheinmetall has been assigned responsibility for taking care of the Eurofighter ASTA Database Preparation Facility (ADPF) in Büchel. Here, the databases for all German Eurofighter flight simulators are centrally generated, modified and prepared for use at the training facilities.

In order to execute this upkeep, maintenance and repair contract, Rheinmetall will be assigning system specialists to the three airbases mentioned above. They have the knowledge and experience necessary for keeping the flight simulators up and running, ensuring that German Air Force pilots have uninterrupted access to this valuable training resource.

Furthermore, Rheinmetall will be supplying a new type of software system to support training and maintenance operations. In future it will assist training and maintenance crews in carrying out daily operational tasks as well as supporting configuration management and processing logistical flows.

Rheinmetall and CAE Elektronik GmbH will share responsibility for looking after and maintaining the simulators, while Cassidian will concentrate on preparing and conducting simulator training operations.

Rheinmetall has helped to take care of Germany's Eurofighter training facilities ever since 2004. The new contract runs until 2015, underscoring once again the German government's confidence in Rheinmetall's expertise in defence, aviation and simulation technology.
