In seinem am Montag in Stuttgart veröffentlichten Lagebericht meldet der ACE Auto Club Europa, dass 65 der insgesamt rund 200 Passstraßen in den Alpen derzeit gesperrt sind, so viele wie noch nie in diesem Winter. Auf immer mehr Strecken gebe es selbst mit Winterausrüstung kein Weiterkommen mehr. Laut ACE ist in Österreich unter anderem der Plöckenpass wegen Lawinengefahr vorübergehend gesperrt worden. In der Schweiz wurden der Simplonpass sowie die Strecke von Stalden nach Saas Fee vorübergehend gesperrt, selbst für Räumfahrzeuge gibt es dort derzeit kein Durchkommen mehr. Auch in Italien sorgten die Schneemassen für vorübergehende Sperrungen: Campolongo, Falzrego, Fedaia, Grödnerjoch, Jaufenpass, Malojapass können aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht mehr befahren werden. In Frankreich sind Larche, Lautaret sowie Col de Vars davon betroffen.
Sprachformeln bei winterlichen Verkehrsverhältnissen:
- "Schneekettenpflicht" wird von den Behörden nach Lage der Dinge vorgeschrieben und beschildert. Die Straßen sind in diesem Fall stark verschneit und/oder vereist, so der ACE.
- "Winterausrüstung erforderlich" bedeutet laut ACE, dass die Strasse mit Schnee und / oder Eis bedeckt ist. Es müssen unbedingt Winterreifen montiert sein. Schneeketten sollten mitgeführt werden.
- "Vorübergehend gesperrt" kann bedeuten, dass so viel Schnee gefallen ist, dass momentan selbst Räumfahrzeuge nicht mehr durchkommen oder Lawinengefahr besteht (auch "Sicherheitssperre")
Der ACE appellierte an Kraftfahrer, neben der minimal erforderlichen üblichen Winterausrüstung bei der Fahrt ins Hochgebirge unbedingt Schneeketten im Gepäck mit zu führen.
