ACE-Sprecher Rainer Hillgärtner sagte am Dienstag in Stuttgart: "Unbestritten ist, dass die Verkehrsinfrastruktur unter einem immer größer werdenden Investitionsstau leidet. Doch eine Pkw-Maut als Finanzierungsinstrument ist ohne gesicherte Kompensation aus Sicht der Autofahrer keinesfalls zu akzeptieren. Eine Straßennutzungsgebühr würde nämlich ohne weiteres zu zusätzlichen Belastungen führen. Dient der Ausbau der Verkehrsinfrastruktur vorwiegend Einzelinteressen der Wirtschaft, ist deren Bereitschaft zur besonderen Mitfinanzierung gefragt, sie sind schließlich die Nutznießer.
Der ACE ist grundsätzlich offen für konstruktive Diskussionen über neue Formen einer tragefähigen Verkehrswegefinanzierung. Es geht allerdings nicht darum, dem Staat neue Einnahmequellen zu eröffnen; Ziel muss es sein, künftigen Generationen eine intakte und auf deren Bedürfnisse zugeschnittene Verkehrsinfrastruktur zu hinterlassen. Insofern ist eine spätere Pkw-Maut für uns denkbar unter der Voraussetzung einer strengen Zweckbindung und einer vorherigen tiefgreifenden und möglichst aufkommensneutralen Verkehrssteuerreform. Weitere Steuern und Gebühren im Verkehrssektor dürfen Autofahrer jedenfalls nicht zusätzlich belasten; dafür muss ein angemessener Ausgleich her."
