Bomar presented Alternative Test Methods for Quantification of Elastic Behaviors in UV/EB Cured Oligomers at the RadTech Europe Conference

Being able to predictively screen materials for strain recovery is useful for formulators wishing to achieve elastic type properties in UV-curable materials

(PresseBox) (Torrington, )
Bomar Specialties, one of the leading manufacturers of (meth)acrylate oligomers and specialty additives for UV/EB curing, presented at the RadTech Europe Conference 2023 in Munich on the use of a non-standard DMA test method to analyze elastic response in urethane (meth)acrylate oligomers by analyzing the rate and total value of strain recovery. Typical test methods for analyzing elastic behavior in thermoset systems include tensile property measurements, tear strength, and Bayshore resilience measurements, but these test methods can not always show the full picture of a material’s true elastic response. A quantitative measure of a material’s rate of strain recovery can provide highly valuable insight into the material’s elastic performance and can help formulators to choose the best oligomer to achieve desired elastic properties in their UV-curable materials.

Structural variables that were considered in the study included isocyanate, polyol, and capping agent selection, overall molecular weight, and the proportional urethane content in the backbone. Correlations were drawn between the measured strain recovery results and other properties such as tensile strength, modulus, and tear strength.

More detailed information and all the results can be found in Bomar´s latest white paper. For further details, please contact your local Bomar sales representative, authorized distributor, or submit an inquiry to info@bomar-chem.com.
