The SCR catalytic converters (SCR stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction) manufactured by BUTTING are used in cruise ships and cargo ships to reduce their nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 per cent. The clusters, ranging in size from 1 to 5, are produced for both high and low pressure ranges. So far this year, BUTTING has manufactured over 60 reactors.
In an effort to generate economic benefits for its customers, the family business relocated its series production for SCR catalytic converters from Knesebeck to Tieling (China) at the beginning of 2023. Engineering and prototype construction will continue to be supported at the headquarters.
The recently produced Cluster 5 Double Layer has a diameter of 3 900 mm and a total weight of 28 metric tonnes. This is the first time that BUTTING has built an SCR catalytic converter of this size: "We take pride in our team's performance and are highly confident that the Cluster 5 Double Layer will soon be ready for series production," states Steven Schlabritz, Project Manager at BUTTING International.
After a successful water pressure test, the quality of the product was also confirmed during the final inspection by the customer MITSUI and MAN Energy Solutions a few weeks ago. The component was then collected from Tieling on a low-loader and shipped from Dalian, China, to Tamano, Japan, via Kobe, Japan.
Marcel Bartels, Managing Director of the BUTTING Group, emphasises that "the cooperation between the locations and the ability to overcome unique challenges reflect the strength of the BUTTING Group."
BUTTING is pleased to be making another important contribution to global environmental protection with this large cluster.
