Automation in CFRP production will be a key to cost reduction, enabler for further applications and finally mass production. Especially for composites parts which get their final properties during the production process this is a challenge. Developing leading automation technologies based on state of the art electronics and IT is a must. Therefore “Industry 4.0 for Composites” is the main topic of this year’s 9th International CFK-Valley Stade Convention, taking place on 16 – 17 June 2015 (Stade, Germany). The Convention is one of the most innovative expert conferences and showcases on the topic of composite lightweight constructions. Top notch lectures will be given by experts from business, institutes and networks.
Adjunct Prof. (Clemson Univ.) Dr.-Ing. Yves-Simon Gloy - Head of Division - Textile Machinery / Production Technologies at Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University will give a lecture concerning the question “Industry 4.0 – A (R)evolution for the Automated Composites Manufacturing?“. In preparation for the upcoming Convention, Mr Gloy sums up his lecture to give an overview on his presentation: “Bobbins with RFID tags configure and control the whole process chain like fabric production, finishing, confection, packing and transportation to the customer. Textile machines are equipped with augmented realty systems which assist workers with their daily maintenance work. Processes like finishing are connected to smart grids in order to use energy when it is less expensive but still are able to produce just-in-time.” Mr Gloy begins and adds “Germany is on the threshold of this 4th Industrial Revolution. Categorized as Industry 4.0 in the high-tech strategy of the German government and supported by the industry associations Bitkom, VDMA and ZVEI, the production of tomorrow is being defined. With Industry 4.0, the intelligent factory of the future is being designed. The intelligent factory is characterized by a high degree of adaptability, resource efficiency and ergonomics.”
The presentation will give an overview on Industry 4.0 and first best practice examples from the textile production. In addition Industrie 4.0 approaches for the automated composites manufacturing will presented. Mr Gloys will talk on the first conference day, on 16 June 2015 at 01:00 pm.
