- New material for rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs): extremely durable, high degree of dimensional stability, suitable for very extreme conditions, guaranteed ultra-high performance, and long service life
- Innovative, coated fabric for life rafts: lightweight, robust, and weatherproof, suitable for floats, flexible buoyancy tubes, and tent substructures
ContiTech will present a new material for rigid-inflatable boats at Techtextil for the first time. "As a well-known supplier in the field of high-performance materials for recreational and working boats, we want to expand our product range to include a coated fabric for rigid-inflatable boats," reports Rodrigo Maia, head of the Engineered Coated Systems segment at ContiTech Elastomer Coatings.
ContiTech's new material for rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs) can be used in the most arduous conditions thanks to their outstanding properties. Rigid-inflatable boats are used by rescue services, the police, and fire brigades, for example, and must be suitable for deployment in extreme conditions. The material is extremely durable, tearproof, weather-, UV-, and sea-water-resistant, and offers a high degree of dimensional stability. The special outer coating consists of highly wear-resistant, weatherproof chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM). A carrier made from high-strength, high-tenacity polyester ensures good structural strength. The inner coating is chloroprene rubber (CR) for good bonding capacity.
"We only use highly robust materials that are particularly low-wear," says Jens Löschner, Group Manager Coated Fabrics from the Engineered Coated Systems product market segment at ContiTech Elastomer Coatings. The newly developed coated fabric can be made in many different color variants. ContiTech has proved itself as a system supplier in this segment, providing coated fabrics, tapes, and adhesives. "We collaborate closely with our customers' development departments and, thanks to our materials expertise and state-of-the-art process technology, we can offer them tailor-made solutions designed to meet their individual requirements," adds Löschner.
ContiTech will also present an innovative coated fabric for life rafts at Techtextil for the first time. "With this, we can guarantee absolutely reliable and safe operation, even after years of storage," says Löschner. The new material is particularly lightweight and yet extremely robust. The outstanding properties of this material mean that it is not only suitable for floats such as life rafts, but also for flexible buoyancy tubes and other flexible constructions such as tent substructures. "It is low-wear and highly weatherproof. In addition, a new surface structure ensures particularly good bonding capacity," states Löschner. The ContiTech life raft materials have been approved by major certification bodies such as SeeBG and IMO.
