Aming to attend once again the Formula Student, an international design competition, a group of about 40 students of Technical University Darmstadt from the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and industrial engineering, developed the car "lambda2016" with which the Racing team is going to start this season. The presentation of the car, a development in which DATRON AG was significantly involved, took place in Darmstadt in May.
The knowledge gained while studying is usually implemented theoretical perfectly by students, but it is often still a lack of practical experience, such as the use of machinery. Working with various companies is granting the students an insight into the practical implementation. The DATRON AG, a medium-sized engineering company, is particularly well positioned to share their knowledge because of their wide product range and constant innovations. This is also shown by the regular supervision of theses work and trainees. According to Gregor Leinfelder, Head of Product Management, the experienced technologists at DATRON AG also learned quite a few things this year: "The design and implementation has also challenged the DATRON team. The supervising technologists gained a lot of experience in dealing with the machinery and tools during the development phase." In collaboration with the PTW, technologists of DATRON AG supported the students in the development of two highly complex components for the transmission. The high demand of this task promoted DATRON to the GOLD partner status of the racing team. The group of students of the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt – FaSTDa, is supported by the technologists of DATRON AG, too. The team also presented the self-developed racing car in May and participate at the same design competition.
