ACHEMA 2015: Dyneon Fluoropolymer solutions for the chemical processing industry

(PresseBox) (Neuss, )
Dyneon GmbH, a subsidiary of science-based company 3M, will be showcasing a range of its high performance fluoropolymers at ACHEMA - the leading trade show for the chemical engineering and process industry. Dyneon's technical experts will be on hand at the show to demonstrate three key product groups: New Sealing Technology (NST) for shaft and piston seals, 3M Dyneon TFM Modified PTFE for sealing and lining applications across a range of industries, and 3M Dyneon Fluoroplastic FEP for film, wire and cable applications. ACHEMA takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, from 15th to 19th of June.

A new range of high-performance 3M Dyneon NST Compounds offer a number of benefits for process engineers. 3M Dyneon Compound NST 1111R - made from a combination of Dyneon high-performance PTFE and new 3M fillers - was developed for the production of radial shaft and piston seals and provides significant advantages for many mechanical and plant engineering applications. The new compound offers a number of operational efficiencies. It can be used in ram extrusion because of its bulk density, compression and automatic moulding and offers increased thermal dimensional stability.

In addition, 3M Dyneon Compound NST 2111R has been developed for applications with a reduced wall thickness and thin contours. Used in combination with isostatic moulding, it can produce incredibly thin profile geometries. In addition, this compound reduces the tendency for cracking.

TFM Modified PTFE - a well-balanced solution

The demands placed on chemical process engineers are becoming ever more complex with regard to sustainable production, improved safety, environmental and health protection. 3M Dyneon TFM Modified PTFE provides a well-balanced solution for many applications, including lining and sealing materials for mechanical and plant engineering. This second generation PTFE offers improved performance, a high level of safety and reliability and creates less environmental impact as it is high in purity and provides a better sealing performance against volatile chemicals. In addition, it is credited with extending the service life of equipment and reducing cleaning effort, resulting in lower system downtimes and improved profitability.

The unique properties of TFM Modified PTFE opens up a wide range of new applications across a broad range of industries. These include cable insulation for the electrical and electronics industry, customised solutions for chemical processing, optimised solutions for the semiconductor industry, for mechanical and automotive engineering.

FEP is a smooth operator

3M Dyneon Fluoroplastic FEP is an essential component for films, linings, tapes, wires and cables across a range of industries including telecommunications, construction, textile, food processing and packaging. FEP is a melt processable fluorothermoplastic and offers excellent chemical inertness, temperature and chemical resistance, exceptional electrical properties, toughness and durability. The FEP portfolio covers a broad range of products including two new FEP FLEX types (FEP FLEX 6309Z and FEP FLEX 6305Z) offering outstanding folding endurance and an extremely smooth surface. It can be processed with improved line speed reducing the production times. Reliable FEP products are enabling save supply and consistent product quality for the demanding industry.

"We are delighted to be exhibiting these innovative new fluoropolymer solutions at ACHEMA, the world forum for the chemical engineering and process industry. We are looking forward to meeting representatives from the industry and working with them to help solve their complex challenges", says Dr. Hans Günther Beckers, Sales and Marketing Manager 3M Advanced Materials Division.
