With the Simple Operator Interface software, coding tasks are accessed directly through intuitive icons, and an easy-to-read message preview is always visible so operators can see exactly what is being printed on the products or packaging. Selecting jobs, editing messages and adjusting codes require only a few steps, and a screen layout devoid of complicated menus eliminates operator confusion and simplifies training.
"Reducing coding errors is extremely important to food, personal goods, pharmaceutical or industrial manufacturers, because miscoded products typically cost thousands of dollars in scrap, rework and downtime," says Markus Vetter, product manager for ALLTEC's Laser Business Unit. "The Alltec Simple Operator Interface software is customizable so unused functions can be selectively turned off, which aids in reducing mistakes. To further prevent accidental changes, a second password-protected user level can be set to access functions that are used less frequently."
The Simple Operator Interface software is offered separately for installation on the touch-screens of ALLTEC laser marking systems or can run on any PC or PC-based user interface device. Touch-screen or PC installation options offer greater flexibility in positioning the interface at a location that is convenient for operators in industries in which a large volume of product must be accurately coded, such as the food, beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical or consumer packaged goods industries. For packaging machinery OEMs, the Simple Operator Interface software enables adding control of the laser coder to an existing primary machine interface to save space and cost, and reduce the number of control points to manage during a product changeover.
Once installed on an ALLTEC laser marking system's touch-screen or a PC, the software connects directly to any model in ALLTEC's full line of CO2, fiber or Nd:YAG laser marking systems (apart from the ALLMARK series, TEA CO2 mask laser markers). It can connect with up to four laser marking systems simultaneously for a single point of control in multi-line packaging and applications in which both sides of a carton require variable data.
