FotoFinder will be working with iDoc24, a mobile health service provider, to improve the early detection of skin cancer across all borders using the iDoc24 teledermatology service together with the FotoFinder handyscope device. The partnership comprises a venture capital investment in iDoc24.
"FotoFinder believes in the growing potential of teledermatology. Our vision is to give more and more people access to the best and earliest possible skin cancer discovery. The handyscope device can make this vision come true" explains Andreas Mayer, CEO of FotoFinder Systems.
FotoFinder is a pioneer in the field of teledermatology with the invention of the handyscope, the first mobile connected dermatoscope for the iPhone and corresponding app. handyscope is a precision engineered skin microscope which is connected to the iPhone and allows taking pictures of moles with up to twentyfold magnification. The microscopic pictures show important details of moles not normally seen with the naked eye.
The combination of medical engineering with the latest communication technology makes the handyscope the perfect tool for teledermatology projects.
iDoc24 started its skin advice service in Sweden in 2009. The company cooperates with the National Health Service in Sweden and is expanding across Europe. Doctors working with iDoc24 review mobile images from skin diseases sent by patients. iDoc24's founder, Dr. Alexander Börve won an "honorable mention" at the 2012 Medicine 2.0 Congress in Boston for his team's research on "Teledermoscopy through a Smartphone App" which used the handyscope device from FotoFinder.
handyscope and its corresponding app will be presented at MEDICA in Düsseldorf from November 14-17, 2012; hall 10, booth B44. handyscope is among the winners of the AppCircus and will be presented at the Health IT Forum at MEDICA on November 16, 2012.
