HARTING pushes technological change in the "integrated industry"

Technology Group realizes record revenues and creates new jobs

(PresseBox) (Nuremberg / Espelkamp, )
The HARTING Technology Group is very satisfied with its performance in the financial year 2012/2013 (Oct. 1st 2012 – Sept. 30th 2013). “We have realized new record revenues”, says Philip Harting, Senior Vice President Connectivity & Networks, during the HARTING press conference at the sps/ipc/drives 2013 trade fair in Nuremberg. The Espelkamp-based family owned and managed company also set a record in terms of personnel levels. By September 2013, more than 3,800 employees worldwide worked for HARTING. The company has created 200 new jobs within a year.

Order intake increased by two digits during the last financial year compared to the previous year. “We are all delighted by these fantastic results”, Philip Harting added. HARTING will release more specific details and figures on December 6, 2013 at the press conference on its annual results in Espelkamp.

Technological progress enhances customer benefits

The HARTING Technology Group is very well positioned on the market for the future and aims to deliver genuine added value for customers, which is one of its declared corporate objectives. It states in the company goals: “We aim to increase customer benefits by implementing technological change and progress.”

HARTING anticipates strong growth opportunities in the rapidly expanding Asian markets, particularly in China. “We are expanding our production capacities in China which will bring us even closer to key customers in future”, remarked Philip Harting.

Another major growth driver is HARTING’s extensive range of solutions for “integrated industry”. This concept is playing a pivotal role in technological change in industry and is therefore the key focus of HARTING’s exhibition stand at this year’s sps/ipc/drives 2013 trade fair in Nuremberg. In integrated industry, products provide the information about how they are to be processed and transferred. This enables companies to adopt eco-friendly and resource-saving approaches. It also streamlines manufacturing by making it more flexible and rapid, while at the same time individualizing it. The entire factory is changing as part of this technological transformation with a transition to the smart factory.

HARTING solutions for “integrated industry” from a single source

Claus Hilger, Managing Director HARTING IT System Integration GmbH & Co. KG, founded in January 2013, emphasized that HARTING will focus even more intensively on positioning itself as a full-range provider in future. HARTING is already supplying highly successful solutions for integrated industry as a single-source supplier. In this context, Auto-ID and more specifically RFID solutions represent key elements of its offerings. RFID enables the automatic identification of objects that obtain an object memory.

Products, containers and tools are equipped with transponders. The data stored on the transponder allows the production process or transport routes to be controlled de-centrally. The transponders and components developed by HARTING are designed for harsh environmental conditions and are therefore 100 percent industry-compatible. Complex processes can also be controlled with the HARTING software, enabling vertical integration from field level to corporate planning level.

In the field of predictive maintenance, HARTING is developing solutions to identify production status using sensors and embedded systems and to optimize maintenance processes avoiding production failures on this basis.

Overall, HARTING is pursuing a “three-pronged strategy” in “integrated industry”.
“Firstly, we have optimized our own internal processes with integrated industry enabling the efficient production of small unit quantities. Secondly, we are supplying products and associated system integration and, thirdly, we are enhancing products digitally”, remarked Claus Hilger explaining the strategy.

Hilger perceives enormous growth potential in this key technology and HARTING IT System Integration GmbH & Co. KG is on a growth trajectory itself. The HARTING local subsidiary is currently looking for qualified IT specialists at its new locations in Berlin and Frankfurt.

HARTING supplies high-performance PROFINET cabling

High-performance cabling is required to enable companies to actually achieve the efficiency gains of “integrated industry”. High-performance PROFINET cabling is the backbone of any PROFINET automation solution. All PROFINET solutions were previously designed on the basis of 100 MBit/s Fast Ethernet. In the future, PROFINET will also operate on a Gigabit Ethernet platform. The benefits for customers – all of the familiar Fast Ethernet RJ45 PROFINET cabling components are now also available in a Gigabit Ethernet version.

“In the future, PROFINET will also work with a Gigabit Ethernet platform. This offers greater versatility and higher performance, is faster and enables users to incorporate standard Gigabit devices into their PROFINET solution. The cabling will also generally be improved by the transition from four-wire to eight-wire solutions”, as Ralf Klein, Managing Director HARTING Electronics stated.

HARTING has defined a container principle as a HARTING factory standard for RJ45 cabling. It ensures the mechanical compatibility of RJ45 connectors with the various IP 65/67 housings, such as Han® 3A or PushPull V.14 (AIDA interface).

PROFINET users can use all of the familiar four-wire RJ45 PROFINET cabling components also in an eight-core version. “The PROFINET standard, combined with HARTING quality, guarantees users ease of handling and a reliable network over the entire lifespan of their PROFINET solution. With the innovations exhibited at the sps, HARTING is highlighting its technology leadership in PROFINET cabling solutions”, added Klein.
