IRIS is the globally recognized standard for evaluating the quality management systems of railway suppliers. Set in 2006, IRIS is governed by the Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE).
Fulfilment of the stringent requirements of the IRIS audit means that HellermannTyton is now an accredited partner in a community of some 1,000 suppliers developing specialised components for the rail industry.
“The IRIS certification verifies that HellermannTyton meets the fundamental requirements of rail vehicle manufacturers for sustainable quality standards”, said Paul Cocheril, European Railway Market Manager at HellermannTyton. “IRIS certification paves the way for us to present ourselves in the UNIFE rail community as an innovative development partner for standard products and customised solutions.”
IRIS builds on the requirements of the ISO 9001 quality standard and includes additional rail-specific requirements. There are parallels to the ISO/TS 16949 required by motor vehicle manufacturers and EN 9100 by the aviation industry – standards which HellermannTyton have fulfilled for many years.
In the field of transport engineering, HellermannTyton develops and manufactures specialised components that meet complex technical requirements.
HellermannTyton product solutions for the rail industry include cable ducts, fixing and fastening components made of plastic as well as customised products for identifying cables, conduits and electrical equipment. Visitors to InnoTrans at the Messe Berlin from 23 - 26 September 2014 can discover more about HellermannTyton’s solutions in Hall 10.1/210.
About IRIS
The IRIS standard is supported by the four largest rail system manufacturers in the UNIFE community – Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom and Ansaldo-Breda – and is an inherent part of the procurement requirements of many companies. All IRIS certified companies are published in the IRIS database, which is openly accessible to all market practitioners.
