Früher wurde Getreide mit der Sense gemäht und in Handarbeit zu Garben gebündelt. Dazu wurden einige Halme um das ganze Bündel gewickelt, um es zusammen zu halten. Dies diente hauptsächlich dem Trocknen der Garben. Mit zunehmender Mechanisierung wurde das Mähen des Getreides und das Binden der Garben von Maschinen getätigt.
Mit vielen interessanten Veranstaltungen wie u. a. der Kutschen- und Schlepperparade bietet das Erntefest ganz besondere Einblicke in das Landleben. Der traditionelle Erntekorso verbildlicht anhand von Maschinen die Entwicklung der Landwirtschaft - von der Aussaat bis zur Ernte. Das beliebte Oldtimer-Pflügen wird als offene Landesmeisterschaft durchgeführt. Die Schlepperparade bietet mit mehr als 50 Teilnehmern eine weitere Attraktion. Hier werden Traktoren aus den späten 20ern bis in die 70er Jahre vorgeführt und fachmännisch kommentiert. Organisiert wird das Erntefest, das in diesem Jahr bereits zum 12. Mal am 30. August auf dem Gutshof in Bernburg Strenzfeld stattfindet, von der Hochschule Anhalt (FH), der Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft, Forsten und Gartenbau und dem Stadtteilentwicklungsverein Strenzfeld e.V.
