Im Kern geht es bei ihrer Doktorarbeit, die die 28-Jährige seit vergangenem Jahr bei Prof. Dr. Gerd Klöck im Projekt ModuLES anfertigt, um phytosynthetische Mikroorganismen, die durch die Produktion von Sauerstoff (O2) und die Fixierung von Kohlendioxid (CO2) einen wertvollen Beitrag in einem Lebenserhaltungssystem leisten können. Darüber hinaus kann der in Form von Algenbiomasse fixierte Kohlenstoff, als direkte oder indirekte Nahrungsquelle dienen - zum Beispiel auf Langstrecken-Missionen wie zum Mars. "Im Rahmen der Parabelflugkampagne untersuchen wir sowohl den Einfluss der Schwerelosigkeit auf die Physiologie der Mikroalge Chlamydomonas reinhardtii als auch die Funktionalität des im Rahmen von ModuLES entwickelten Bioreaktors", so Franziska Bleeke, die 2015 die Promotion abschließen möchte. ModuLES steht für "Modulares Lebenserhaltungs- und Energiesystem".
Bei dem Parabel-Flugmanöver steigt ein ziviler Airbus A300 ZERO-G aus dem horizontalen Flug steil nach oben bis auf eine Höhe von 7.000 bis 8.500 Metern, drosselt die Schubkraft der Turbinen und fliegt dabei eine Parabel, bei der für etwa 22 Sekunden Schwerelosigkeit herrscht. "Insgesamt standen uns an vier Flugtagen mit jeweils 31 Parabeln etwa 45 Minuten Schwerelosigkeit - im Wechsel mit normaler und doppelter Erdbeschleunigung - zur Verfügung, die wir für Experimente nutzen konnten," erklärt die Promovendin.
Vor ihrer Promotion absolvierte Franziska Bleeke an der Hochschule Bremen den Internationalen Bachelor- und den Masterstudiengang Technische und Angewandte Biologie.
