“The benchmark results demonstrate Amdocs and IBM’s ability to provide an affordable, scalable infrastructure solution that is well designed to support our customers’ business needs,” said Jeff Howard, Director, IBM System p.
Real-time rating is a strategic imperative for any service provider who wants to offer value-add mobile data services as well as pre-paid and post-paid convergence. The combination of Amdocs Charging 6 with the IBM System p servers, ensures that service providers can continue to provide consumers with choice in their payment options.
“As consolidation continues in the industry, service providers have to cope with supporting a vast customer base, even as consumers demand more service and payment options,” said Michael Couture, vice president, product and solutions marketing of Amdocs. “. Our real-life experience in real-time convergent charging and benchmark tests with industry leaders demonstrate that Amdocs and its partners provide the system agility and scalability needed to ensure customer loyalty while delivering a cost-effective solution with superior convergent capabilities.”
The benchmark test of Amdocs Charging 6 software running on IBM System p5-595, demonstrated steady throughput of 15,000 events per second or approximately 22 million calls per hour in a pre-pay environment. This raw performance was reinforced by transaction latency of less than 50ms for 99% of the events and superior Hi-Availability through zero events lost, detection time below 200ms and fail over achieved in less than 400ms.
Conducted at IBM’s facility in Montpellier, France, the benchmark utilized two IBM System p5 595 servers with 64-bit POWER5 TM processors and the IBM AIX 5L TM v5.3 operating system using 96 p5 1.9Ghz CPUs. The benchmark configuration also included one IBM TotalStorage DS8300 TM storage array, Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition (9.2.0.6) 64 bit and TimesTen 6.0.2.
