Many companies currently use HMI primarily for machine control, typically involving textual settings adjustments, programming changes, or retrieving status information and logs from sensors through interfaces. However, with 3DViewStation, the exact 3D CAD models associated with the machine can be used for visualization with appealing graphics. This enables new applications that make machine operation and control more attractive and efficient. Documentation for commissioning, maintenance information, and precise fault diagnostics enable smoother communication.
In practice, it works as follows: In the event of an error, the user does not just receive a textual notification; they are also shown exactly where the issue is on a 3D model of the machine. All components are loaded and displayed transparently, with the affected part highlighted in red. Automatic zooming and navigation make problem identification easier. By clicking on the 3D geometry, the status can be checked in real-time, and historical data provides additional insights into possible causes of the failure, avoiding the time-consuming manual search through documentation. The user can check through metadata embedded in the 3D model whether a suitable replacement component is in stock, and if not, an order can be automatically triggered. Problem-solving documentation can be linked with the 3D geometry, and instructions can be provided as PDFs, videos, or 3D models with step-by-step guides. Integrating 3DViewStation into the HMI not only revolutionizes machine control but also enhances efficiency and user-friendliness.
An impressive example of the successful use of 3DViewStation is Pester Pac Automation GmbH. Since autumn 2022, packaging machines equipped with 3DViewStation have been in operation, with large numbers already in use by end customers. For all machines with the new HMI, Pester now offers a spare parts catalog that also uses 3DViewStation for visualization and graphical navigation. Additionally, the machines feature a preventive maintenance solution powered by 3DViewStation. In the near future, the 3D graphics will also be used in the online product configurator. Ralf Abler, Director Innovation & Digital Unit at Pester Pac Automation GmbH, praises the collaboration: “I’ve never regretted working with KISTERS to develop a completely new 3D visualization for our HMI. The synergy and chemistry were right from the start!”
The viewer is used in all areas, from the design phase to pre-sales with product configurators, and is also established in after-sales solutions such as maintenance and service processes. Both the WebViewer and the desktop version can be operated stand-alone. “Customers who use the 3DViewStation in an integrated manner provide their users with an additional visual method to find the information they need more efficiently and make faster decisions. This enhancement with a 3D CAD graphic component greatly benefits visually-oriented users,” explains Craig Impastato, U.S. Sales Director for KISTERS. The 3DViewStation integrates seamlessly into various systems, including PLM systems like Aras Innovator, Siemens TeamCenter, and Dassault 3DExperience, as well as different product configurators and the Quanos spare parts catalog. Extensive interactive functionalities are available for every requirement, with the same features offered across desktop, web, and mobile devices. “Developers particularly appreciate the easy integration, as only a few lines of code are required, with no SDK necessary,” Impastato adds. Cost control is facilitated by low effort when switching between platforms, and there are numerous automation options for process optimization.
KISTERS 3DViewStation is continuously enhanced in response to customer needs and requirements. It is available as a Desktop, HTML5 WebViewer and VR Edition product versions plus the online collaboration tool VisShare. All product offerings can be integrated with a PLM, ERP or other leading management system as well as service and spare part applications. KISTERS 3DViewStation provides all necessary APIs for your development team. For cloud, portal and web solutions, there is a HTML5-based WebViewer solution available, which does not require client installation. All file formats can be used in combination with the intelligent navigation and hyperlinking features to address the needs of complex integration scenarios.
