Climate-neutral by the year 2030: KORODUR, a manufacturer specialized in the production of mineral hard aggregates for the installation of heavy-duty, cementitious industrial floors, is pursuing this ambitious goal. In order to achieve this, new products are being developed and various business processes are being restructured. In this way, Korodur wants to contribute to the protection of the climate and the environment at many different levels.
“Sustainability in the ecological sense has long been a fundamental spirit to Korodur, and we know that it will permanently have an impact on all aspects of construction. As part of an industry that ties up large amounts of resources and energy, we see it as our corporate responsibility to actively lead the way forward in this field. We are therefore expanding our product range to include new products, the production of which will entail significantly lower CO2 emissions. A perfect example of this is the further development of one of our best-selling products: NEODUR HE 3 for use in dry-shake method. With the resource-saving “NEODUR HE 3 green” variant, we can already reduce CO2 emissions here by up to 30 percent. Other newly developed products will follow soon. And this is just one of many facets of our corporate strategy for the protection of the environment and people’s livelihoods,” explains Nikola Heckmann, Korodur’s CEO.

At the BAU 2023 Trade Fair, climate protection will consequently form a focal point in the corporate image of our medium-sized company. Both for the new product “NEODUR HE 3 green” and for other products, Korodur has appropriate Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) available for clients, architects, planners and construction companies.
Thanks to the longevity of the products and the resulting long life cycles in application, the conventional product range is already set up on a very sustainable basis, according to Nikola Heckmann. In addition, the paper packaging for the 25 kg bags has long been optimized with regard to the CO2 footprint. The innovative 3D concrete printing method that Korodur carries out together with its Dutch partner CyBe Construction also makes a sound contribution to environment-friendly construction.
Energy savings, solar power, e-mobility and digitization
Korodur is now making additional efforts, including the installation of a photovoltaic system that will generate around 30% of the energy required there in the first expansion stage at the Bochum-Wattenscheid site. New electric vehicles and wallboxes are accelerating the transition to climate-friendly e-mobility. The digitization of many processes and various energy savings through the use of more energy-efficient lamps are further examples – as is the company’s own forest property in Amberg comprising an insect hotel.
“To refine our sustainability strategy, we work closely with specialized agencies concerned with the promotion of energy efficiency. We want to contribute to ensuring that buildings as a whole leave the lowest possible CO2 footprint. Energy savings in the manufacturing process and low-carbon production play a key role in this,” emphasizes the CEO.
