Hundreds of Lantech PoE switches are divided into two groups and connected in an optical fiber ring respectively. The project mainly selects two types of cameras to construct the video surveillance system: Five megapixel IP cameras and normal IP cameras. The cameras are set at most of the main intersections in the city. As the demand of video quality is getting higher, the Ethernet network for a video surveillance system must have a huge transmission capacity and supports multicast protocol. The powerful managed functions that Lantech industrial managed switches provide enhance the network reliability and quality, especially the Pro-Ring II system and IGMP protocol. Pro-Ring II system ensures the network redundancy, which provides a recovery time of less than 10ms and yet with much easy configuration. IGMP snooping v1 v2 and IGMP query make data transmission more efficient and stable.
The IPES-2208C-E is so rugged and durable to meet the harsh operating environment in this southeast Europe city. The climate changes severely from summer to winter in the plateau city, where the temperature ranges from average low ?20 °C in January to average high 35 °C in July and August, plus the switches are installed in the closing cabinets. The IPES-2208C-E can survive from very low temperature and reboot if requested. It also passed several tests such as EMI, EMC, free fall, shock, vibration, etc.
The project plans not only for neighborhood security application, but to extend the PoE network into traffic management, public transport management, and variable message signs management in the future.
