The new version of the LuraDocument PDF Compressor now also allows JPEG2000 image compression. When converting documents into highly-compressed, fully text searchable PDF/A files, the PDF Compressor can therefore achieve a greater rate of image compression with improved image portion quality compared with PDF/A-1. JPEG2000 also allows lossless encoding into PDF/A in photo mode. Transparency is also permitted in PDF/A.
The PDF/A-2 standard, based on the self-contained ISO standard 32000-1 and PDF 1.7, creates a basis for saving documents at 1:1 scale; something which is required in geographical applications, among others. Because the page limit is now 381 by 381 kilometres, instead of PDF/A-1's five-by-five metre limit. In a further improvement, layers can be switched on and off as desired. This is useful, for instance, when needing to display only the black and white layer of a colour document, or to print a file without a distracting background.
Moreover, the PDF Compressor now achieves even more reliable text extraction and better search results, thanks to UNICODE support in scanned documents with OCR full text capability. Special characters, such as the € symbol, are correctly interpreted and not extracted as unreadable special characters.
Customers who have already installed the PDF Compressor will receive a free update.
