MySQL 4 ist ab sofort bei McAc.net-Webhosting ( http://www.mcac.net ) verfügbar. Es wurde hierbei neben der bisher vorhandenen Version 3.23.58 die Version 4.1.14 zur Verfügung gestellt, d.h. McAc.net bietet seinen Kunden nun einen Parallelbetrieb von MySQL 3 und MySQL 4 an.
Die Festlegung der gewünschten MySQL-Version erfolgt im Kundenmenü unter "MySQL-DB". Allerdings ist es ausschließlich möglich, für eine Datenbank ein Versionsupgrade von der Version 3 auf die Version 4 vorzunehmen. Ein Downgrade der MySQL-Version von der Version 4 auf die Version 3 ist aufgrund der teilweise weitreichenden Versionsunterschiede bedauerlicherweise nicht möglich!
Da vielmals besonders bei älteren Scripten Kompatibilitätsprobleme mit neuen MySQL-Versionen auftreten und McAc.net den Kunden Kosten und Zeit für Neuentwicklung ersparen will, werden beide MySQL-Versionen künftig im Parallelbetrieb geführt.
MySQL ist das seit langem populärste relationale OpenSource-Datenbankverwaltungssystem. Datenbanken werden verwendet, um Datensätze in Tabellenform zu erstellen und diese dann über Skriptsprachen wie PHP oder PERL wieder auszulesen. Eingesetzt werden Datenbanken i.d.R. immer dann, wenn relativ viele Daten gespeichert und bereitgestellt werden sollen, wie beispielsweise bei Online-Shops, Foren oder CMS-Systemen.
