One of the important key themes of this year's CERAMITEC is “Energy and Cost Efficiency”, a topic that will wind its way through various aspects of the exhibition like a red thread. After all, the efficient use of energy both in preliminary and high-temperature processes plays an important role in a wide range of sectors in the ceramics industry.
To deal with this topic with a broader audience of industry professionals, among other things it will be broken down into various categories, i.e. preparation technology, shaping, drying technology and sintering. The German Ceramics Society (DKG) has agreed to act as partner for the "Energy and Cost Efficiency" event on Tuesday, 20 October 2009, and will draw on its broad-based network of prominent experts and speakers.
In addition, the German Engineering Federation, Ceramics Machinery Section (VDMA) is working with the Working Group European Ceramic Technology Suppliers (ECTS) and its members to organise a new special show titled Energy and Cost Efficiency, which will be held in Hall A5, i.e. in close proximity to the CERAMITEC FORUM.
The innovative strength of technical ceramics and powder metallurgy and the potential that modern manufacturing techniques have to offer when it comes to establishing new products will be the focus of Technical Ceramics and Powder Metallurgy Day on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Key topics include new and proven technologies for manufacturing powder-metallurgy parts and innovations and technologies for production in the ceramics industry and other application sectors. Various technical presentations will examine manufacturing techniques, innovative technologies and newly developed plants in both sectors. Technical organisation for this event is in the hands of Fraunhofer IKTS and TASK/Meeting Point Ceramics in cooperation with Germany's Powder Metallurgy Trade Association (FPM).
Trade journal "Zi" (Ziegelindustrie International, bauverlag) is organising the Heavy Clay Day on Thursday, 22 October. Among other things, the lectures will examine topics such as energy efficiency – from product manufacturing to energy optimisation throughout the production process to energy-efficient buildings – as well as prospects and opportunities for the industry. Several participants from the TBE Annual Conference are expected to participate in this event as speakers and discussion partners.
The supporting programme also boasts other premieres: On Friday, 23 October, the India Day will take place at the CERAMITEC Forum as a follow-up to the 5th CERAMITEC Roundtable. The event was conceived as an Indian-European partnership meeting and will examine the current situation on the Indian market given the economic crisis. Organisers are cfi (ceramic forum international, Göller Verlag) and the Indian representative of the VDMA.
In addition, for the first time ever, CERAMITEC's international setting will be used for 'ThinkIng', a VDMA initiative that gives schoolchildren a chance to meet with companies in the industry and see what the working world is currently like for mechanical engineers, electrical technicians and process technicians. The programme will be rounded out by further information on study courses and job prospects. The event will be held on Wednesday, 21 October.

About CERAMITEC
CERAMITEC, 11th International Trade Fair for Machinery, Equipment, Plants, Processes and Raw Materials for CERAMICS and POWDER METALLURGY, will take place at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 20 to 23 October 2009. Since its premiere in 1979, CERAMITEC has developed into the world’s leading trade fair for the ceramic industry. The comprehensive supporting programme provides an overview of current trends and innovations in the ceramic market. CERAMITEC 2006 attracted 612 exhibitors from 42 countries and approx. 22,000 visitors from 106 countries. Statistics for CERAMITEC are checked by an independent auditor contracted by the Gesellschaft zur Freiwilligen Kontrolle von Messe- und Ausstellungszahlen (Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics).
