The novel GAS85xyB chip generation is based on a standard CMOS technology which has been successfully proven in automotive and in industrial applications. The system solution detects ammonia and flammable gases such as hydrogen in the ambient atmosphere and also measures temperature and relative humidity.
"The futureoriented development of visionary concepts coupled with our extensive experience in Hall sensors enabled this totally new sensor technology which we presented to the public for the first time last year", says Karl Hoffmann, Director Marketing Advanced Sensors at Micronas. "With the advanced mySENS technology and the new GAS85xyB chip generation in a small LCC28 package we now provide system solutions for gas sensor technology for a wide range of applications in industry, in health care and in automobiles".
The GAS85xyB chip is manufactured in reliable and costeffective standard semiconductor technology and, with its compact size, combines sensor elements with standard electronics components such as amplifiers, logic circuits and digital interface. Micronas paves the way for gas sensor technology in totally new applications with low system costs, reliable gas detection, minimum power consumption and long lifetime.
The unique feature is the platform concept of mySENS which allows the GAS85xyB chip to be adapted to different target gases.
With this product family Micronas addresses a whole range of applications, for instance in early fire detection, ventilation and air conditioning, automotive and industrial electronics and health care. Micronas is currently in the final stage of product development for the first customer projects.
Micronas will present the mySENS system solution GAS85xyB and the evaluation kits (a quadruple laboratory test stand for gas pressurization and a USB Plug&Play kit, available after mid of 2010) at the Sensor+Test trade fair in Nuremberg (booth 12-302) from May 18 to 20, 2010, and at the Sensors Expo & Conference in Chicago, USA, (booth 715) from June 7 to 9, 2010.
About sensor solutions supplied by Micronas
Micronas, considered pioneers in Hall sensors in CMOS technology, currently offers the world's biggest portfolio of Hall sensors. The company was the first to launch CMOS Hall sensors on the market. This technology allows the integration of Hall sensor elements together with standard electronic functions such as amplifiers, logic circuits and regenerative or nonregenerative storage.
Micronas' experiences in Hall sensors are a perfect complement for the company's CMOS and mixedsignal development resources for making precise and intelligent systems for a wide range of uses and applications. The steadily growing demand for energyefficient and highly reliable applications will ensure that the need for these intelligent sensors is bound to grow further.
