The master’s thesis was about the examination of the oxygen content in multi-layer trays made of PP (polypropylene). For a long-term study over six months the meal trays were sealed with a transparent film with an adhesive oxygen sensor at the inside. Following this, the oxygen content has been measured at regular intervals. “The easy handling of the system has greatly facilitated my work. In addition, the fast availability of the measuring results is a big plus of this device,” says Knut Helbig who is Master of Engineering in the field of packaging technology now.
The OpTech®-O2 Platinum contactless measures the oxygen concentration in packaging for the food and pharmaceutical industry. It is used for non-destructive measurement of oxygen permeation and residual oxygen. The OpTech® technology works with an optical sensor whose fluorescence is directly related to the oxygen content in the headspace of a package or in a liquid.
The quality of our OpTech®-O2 Platinum ensured a smooth process of the research program. “There were no complications and I could always rely on the operational capability of the system,” says Knut Helbig. A portable version (optional) and low weight allow to carry out tests along the entire production and supply chain from manufacturer to retail trade.
Congratulations on the successful completion of studies. It was a pleasure to support this project.
