The MSC CXB-8S COM Express™ Type 2 platform can replace modules with chipsets which are being discontinued by Intel. These are boards with Intel® 945 chipset and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo or Intel® Atom™ N270 processors and with US15W chipset and Intel® Atom™ Z Series processors. Customers moving to one of the new platforms can benefit from the higher performance of the replacement modules and also extend the life time of their existing systems.
The module family in the Basic form factor of 95 x 125 mm offers the PCI bus (32 bit), six PCI Express™ x1 channels and a PCI Express™ graphics (PEG) x16 interface. Mass storage can be connected via four SATA channels (up to 600 MB/s) and one PATA interface. Eight USB 2.0 interfaces, LPC bus and Gbit Ethernet are available. Two independent displays can be driven via LVDS (dual-channel, 24 bit) and CRT. Optionally, MSC can connect additional display interfaces to the PEG signals for the connection of a third independent display. Via two 204 pin sockets, fast dual-channel DDR3L (1333/1600, low voltage) SDRAM with a maximum storage capacity of altogether 16GB can be plugged into the board.
The MSC CXB-8S high-end modules are supplied with different 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors depending on the customer's requirements. Besides the high-end model with i7-4700EQ quad-core Intel® Core™ i7-4700EQ processor (2.4GHz, 3.4GHz in Turbo Boost Mode) and 47W Thermal Design Power (TDP) various dual-core versions can be equipped with i5-4400E (2.7/3.3GHz), i5-4402E (1.6/2.7GHz), i3-4100E (2.4GHz) or i3-4102E (1.6GHz). The most cost-effective modules are using either the 2000E (2.2GHz) or the 2002E (1.5GHz) Intel® Celeron® processors, both having also two CPU cores. All these COM Express™ modules are based on one of the powerful Intel® 8-Series platform Controller Hubs (PCHs), QM87 for i5 and i7 processors or HM86 for i3 and Celeron. The built-in Intel® HD Graphics Gen 7 with Media Accelerator supports DirectX® 11.1, OpenGL 3.2 und OpenCL™ 1.2. An Infineon Trusted Platform Module offers a hardware based security functionality.
For evaluation and quick design-in of the COM Express™ module family, MSC Technologies supplies universal baseboards, starter kits, passive and active cooling solutions.
