MTU Maintenance announces Air New Zealand as GE90 launch customer

(PresseBox) (Hanover, Germany, )
MTU Maintenance has been successful in winning its first GE90 maintenance customer. Air New Zealand has appointed the Hannover-based company for the maintenance on the GE90-115B engines powering its five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

MTU Maintenance Hannover obtained the MRO license for the new engine type last year and is optimally prepared to support this propulsion system. "The excellent relationship we have built with Air New Zealand over many years has played a decisive role in the airline's decision to become the launch customer for our GE90 maintenance program," explains Dr. Stefan Weingartner, MTU President Commercial Maintenance. "I'm sure that work on the world's most powerful commercial jet engine will contribute significantly to the efficient utilization of shop capacities at our Hannover location."

Air New Zealand has been a regular customer of MTU Maintenance for its CF6-80C2 engines. The newly concluded deal covers 12 GE90-115B engines powering the airline's Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Air New Zealand Powerplant Manager Andrew Hewitt says the new agreement with MTU Maintenance will provide value and drive efficiencies for both organizations. "The GE90-115B agreement with MTU Maintenance represents a significant 12 year investment for Air New Zealand. Based on our existing MRO contract with MTU we are confident they will continue to perform and deliver us an excellent service," says Andrew Hewitt.

Air New Zealand is the national airline of New Zealand and a member of the Star Alliance global airline alliance. Air New Zealand's fleet of Boeing 777-300ER air-craft, powered by the GE90-115B, predominantly operates on its services from Auckland via Los Angeles to London.
