Original1 On-Demand Launching in China for Unparalleled Product Serialization, Track & Trace and Authentication Services at SAP SAPPHIRE NOW

(PresseBox) (Beijing, )
Beijing, November 15, 2011 – Original1, a joint venture of SAP, Nokia and Giesecke & Devrient, is launching Original1 On-Demand, its new software-as-a-service solution, in China with general availability starting November 20, 2011. Original1 On-Demand enables brand owners, manufacturers and their business partners to secure their brand value and detect counterfeits and other illicit products throughout their value chain. Closing the gap towards an end-to-end solution, Original1 On-Demand also empowers consumers. The mobile SmartEye application, already preloaded on a wide range of Nokia smartphones in China, allows consumers to authenticate consumer products, medications, identity documents and diplomas quickly and conveniently, providing integrity and transparency throughout the entire value chain.

As the provider of the leading on-demand platform for trusted product information to protect people and brands, Original1 has a unique position in the market. The Original1 On-Demand solution offers complete software-as-a-service for serializing, tracking and authenticating products, allowing, for example, the detection of grey market activities and sales channel validation in real time. Manufacturers and brand owners are put in a position to protect their products against infringements of trademark and intellectual property law throughout the entire production and customer delivery process, right up to consumption.

Original1 On-Demand is a complete web-based platform for brands to create true transparency in the entire value chain for all their products. For companies using proven SAP on-premises solutions, such as the SAP Object Event Repository, Original1 On-Demand offers a convenient way to collect events throughout the brand owner’s supply chain and feed them back into their on-premises systems for reporting and analytics. Mobile SmartEye applications are available on various smartphone platforms for consumers and, with additional security features, for professional users.

Businesses with products mandated to support the Chinese National Essential Drug System with Electronics Monitoring Codes (EMC) and consumer product serialization, known as Product Identification Authentication and Tracking System (PIATS) coding, receive true added value by gaining a simple interface to the respective EMC and PIATS databases thanks to Original1 On-Demand. Acting as a trusted hub between the company’s on-premises systems, like the SAP OER and the PIATS and EMC serialization database, Original1 makes it possible for companies to focus on their core business while fulfilling the compliance mandate of the Chinese government.

“We are excited to empower Chinese consumers and enterprise users with Original1 On-Demand and Mobile SmartEye apps. This truly helps consumers to make better and safer purchase decisions, as well as helping brands to improve confidence in their products. In addition, brands will gain a real-time mobile channel for consumers for their branded content services creating cool product experiences,” said Pasi Kemppainen, Chief Executive Officer of Original1.

By founding Original1 Technology (Beijing) Co. Ltd. in November 2010, Original1 GmbH, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, has expanded its on-demand business into China, the world’s fastest growing consumer market. Original1 offers the Mobile SmartEye smartphone application free of charge, which allows consumers to authenticate identity documents (Chinese national ID cards), diplomas, medications and consumer products conveniently within seconds. To support consumer safety in China, Nokia is preloading Mobile SmartEye on a range of new Symbian Belle devices. The first preloaded Nokia devices will be Nokia 600, 603, 700, 701 and N8. With Nokia N8, Chinese citizens can use the device’s auto-focus camera to check the authenticity of products like essential drugs with EMC, simply by scanning the unique SFDA mandated Electronics Monitoring Code, or access the pay-per-use service for checking identity documents and diplomas. Mobile SmartEye will also be available for Android, iPhone and Windows Phone smartphones in the first half of 2012.
