As mobile users, the employees at the five sales locations in Europe access their virtual working environments via VPN connections. The virtualised Windows desktops are equipped with standard software such as Outlook and Microsoft Office. Employees also use business solutions from the Cloud to plan business processes and projects.
Lean IT organisation thanks to desktop virtualisation
David Fawcett, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Miyachi Europe, sees the main benefit of Cloud Computing in a lean IT organisation: "At the same time as expanding our production capacities in Germany, we have modernised our IT infrastructure in order to support our activities throughout Europe more effectively. As we have 120 employees in seven European countries, local IT support was no longer economically viable. Desktop virtualisation, on the other hand, enables us to offer our IT tools centrally via a browser, and consequently independently of location."
Pironet NDH operates the customer's desktop environment in its high-security data centres in Germany. Miyachi utilises the software services for the desktop operating system and standard and business applications according to the Software as a Service model. The virtual workstations obtain storage space and computing power as Infrastructure as a Service from the Pironet NDH Business Cloud.
Holistic solution comprising Cloud, hosting and networking
"Pironet NDH offers us the ideal mixture of Cloud Computing, Managed Hosting and Corporate Networks. We wouldn't have been able to satisfy our requirements with individual services, especially from large Public Clouds," emphasises Mr. Fawcett. Another reason for choosing the service provider was its holistic service, says the COO of Miyachi Europe: "At Pironet NDH we receive end-to-end service guarantees, plus an ITIL-based and personal customer service for all services, from standard networking to the virtual PC. This overall package is particularly effective in consolidating our IT environment."
