Miyachi, the world market leader for laser and electric resistance welding, is consolidating its application and server infrastructure in Europe with Cloud Computing technology. The heart of the new technology is a virtualised desktop environment for 120 employees in Europe. For this purpose Miyachi has outsourced the operation and management of its PC workstations to the Pironet NDH Datacenter. Miyachi backs up solutions which are still operated locally, such as CAD design software, overnight in the ICT service provider's Cloud Storage. Pironet NDH also networks the two main locations in Helmond, the Netherlands, and Puchheim near Munich, Germany, over an encrypted Corporate Network with the Business Cloud.
As mobile users, the employees at the five sales locations in Europe access their virtual working environments via VPN connections. The virtualised Windows desktops are equipped with standard software such as Outlook and Microsoft Office. Employees also use business solutions from the Cloud to plan business processes and projects.
Lean IT organisation thanks to desktop virtualisation
David Fawcett, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Miyachi Europe, sees the main benefit of Cloud Computing in a lean IT organisation: "At the same time as expanding our production capacities in Germany, we have modernised our IT infrastructure in order to support our activities throughout Europe more effectively. As we have 120 employees in seven European countries, local IT support was no longer economically viable. Desktop virtualisation, on the other hand, enables us to offer our IT tools centrally via a browser, and consequently independently of location."
Pironet NDH operates the customer's desktop environment in its high-security data centres in Germany. Miyachi utilises the software services for the desktop operating system and standard and business applications according to the Software as a Service model. The virtual workstations obtain storage space and computing power as Infrastructure as a Service from the Pironet NDH Business Cloud.
