Die 8. Berliner Sicherheitskonferenz wird heute von Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, ehemaliger Präsident des Europäischen Parlaments, vor über 1.000 Teilnehmern aus dem Europäischen Parlament, nationalen Parlamenten, europäischen Regierungen und Streitkräften eröffnet. Außerdem wird Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, ehemaliger Kanzler von Österreich, erwartet.
Die Berliner Sicherheitskonferenz (bsc) wird vom Behörden Spiegel in Kooperation mit der Europäischen Kommission, der ESDA / WEU-Versammlung und der EVP-Fraktion im Europäischen Parlament veranstaltet. Auf der diesjährigen bsc informieren und diskutieren über 120 Experten aus Verteidigungs- und Außenpolitik. Schwerpunkte sind dieses Jahr die Zukunft des gemeinsamen militärischen Engagements u.a. auf dem Balkan.
