With this plant, REHAU increases the number of its production plants to 41 and the produc-tion capacity for the automotive division worldwide to 15 locations. The company has in-vested more than 50 million Euros into the new plant building measuring 24,000 square metres, which will be the future place of work for 200 new colleagues. Approximately 130 employees are currently working in a 3-shift system in production.
Markus Grundmann, a member of the REHAU automotive board of management, stressed during the festive inauguration in front of 150 invited guests that building a new plant in Györ "was a logical consequence of the long-lasting, excellent, local collaboration with Audi". It was apparent that he was proud to point out that the polymer specialist present in Hungary for 20 years is now consistently further developing its market position in the auto-motive sector in addition to the business divisions construction and industry. REHAU has been already assembling Audi bumper variants for various models in Györ since 2005, until now in a logistics centre, and has supplied them directly to the automotive manufacturer's conveyor belt. The bumpers for the A3 saloon car and convertible models as well as the front and back bumper systems for the Audi TT and the Q7 will be injection moulded, painted and supplied just-in-time for the final, local assembly.
"We are aware that Audi demands a lot from us", stressed Dr.Veit Wagner, Vice President of the REHAU Group, during his brief speed about the business relationship based on mutual respect and trust, which was also further highlighted by the chairperson of the board of management of Audit, Hungary, Thomas Faustmann: "REHAU dominates technology and processes at a world class level", which AUDI has been convinced of for years. In addition to this, building the new plants in close proximity to Audi also promises even shorter distances and even faster communication between the partners. Faustmann continued that he hopes that Györ will become the "centre of life of many engineers and their families" with the creation and expansion of all pooled expertise. The opening the REHAU production location is an important step in this direction and an important event for Audi.
In the presence of Dr.Veit Wagner, Thomas Faustmann, Markus Grundmann, Dr. Zoltán Cséfalvay, the Hungarian Minister of State in the Ministry for National Economy, Deputy Mayor Dávid Fekete and international representatives of companies, Alexander Ziehr originally from Germany took over the management in Györ as the plant manager. The first official act of the 37-year old was to invite more than 150 guests from Hungary, Austria and Germany to a plant tour.
They were able to convince themselves that REHAU opts for innovative environmental technologies, which promise a head start in terms of efficiency and conservation of re-sources. The heart of the new machine park is the modular painting line based on CO2 cleaning, which was developed in-house. It is particularly environmentally friendly and does completely away with the use of valuable water. Predecessors of this unit have already proven their worth at the production locations Viechtach and Port Elisabeth in South Africa. The energy supply of the new plant building itself is also considered to be exemplary. As, amongst other things, REHAU paid attention to efficient energy use and generation of renewable energies when building the production and office wing in Györ. 54 geothermal probes from the companies own building division have been installed in the ground on the works premises, for example. They will supply the building with heat or cool temperatures extracted from the ground in a natural way from now on.
