近来德国科技集团莱茵金属和同济大学在上海建立了联合实验室，以促进新能源技术的合作。联合实验室将主要致力于燃料电池的研究和创新，同时也促成同济大学汽车学院的新教席教授聘任。作为全球汽车行业重要供应商，莱茵金属在中国设有17个工厂。

2021年4月16日下午，在莱茵金属虹桥总部举行了莱茵金属与同济大学汽车学院共建联合实验室的签约仪式。莱茵金属集团中国区总裁魏培德，同济大学汽车学院院长张立军教授以及研发中心教席为联合实验室的创建签字。

 “我们建立联合实验室的目标在于为快速增长的中国市场开发与燃料电池相关应用的解决方案。” 莱茵金属中国区总裁魏培德说, “我们期望可以跟同济大学继续长期合作，追求不断创新和培养高质量学生的双重目标。”

莱茵金属汽车旗下的皮尔博格公司利用内燃机领域泵和阀的现有技术能力，可以将内燃机在可替代传动系统上应用。除了适用于燃料电池特殊要求的无泄漏调节阀之外，公司还开发了迄今为止在市场上占有特殊地位的另外两种产品：电子水泵和氢气循环泵。两者都适用于低压400和800伏的车载高压电源系统。
