MEDICA 2014: Innovations in flexible Sensor Ureterorenoscopes

'BOA vision' and 'COBRA vision' from Richard Wolf have impressive user comfort, image quality and application options

(PresseBox) (Knittlingen/Düsseldorf, )
Medical technology company Richard Wolf has once again proved its high level of innovative power with the flexible Sensor Ureterorenoscopes (URS) 'COBRA vision' and 'BOA vision', which have been supplied to the marketplace since the beginning of the year. 'COBRA vision' is therefore currently the only flexible Sensor URS on the market developed specially as an instrument for stone therapy, which permits the simultaneous use of two auxiliary instruments, such as a laser fiber and a stone extraction basket. If children or adults with narrow ureters are being examined and treated, 'BOA vision' is the instrument of first choice. It is the only flexible Single-channel Sensor URS which can also be conducted through narrow access sheaths due to the very small sheath diameter. Both products for diagnosis and therapy of the upper urinary tract are therefore part of the permanent exhibition program for Richard Wolf (Hall 10; Stand C41) at this year's MEDICA International Trade Fair for Medical Technology.

"While surgeons are primarily impressed by the unique selling points for application and the high image quality, low maintenance costs and the opportunities for use beyond the actual intended purpose are the main reasons leading hospital managers and medical technicians to opt for 'COBRA vision' and 'BOA vision'. Both flexible Sensor Ureterorenoscopes have a sensor unit which operates together with the latest camera controller ENDOCAM Logic HD. The high-quality camera controller is compatible with a range of camera heads so that instruments are also ideally suited to additional urological interventions, such as a semi-rigid URS, a percutaneous nephrolithotomy, a resection or other interdisciplinary interventions," according to Jürgen Steinbeck, Managing Director of the Richard Wolf GmbH.

The digital sensor in the tip of both instruments also makes a substantial contribution to the stability of the asset value for the two Wolf instruments. This is because the digital transmission provides an endoscopy image without interfering pixels, which presented a major problem with the Fiber URS used previously due to frequently occurring fiber breaks. The high-resolution image sensor in combination with the LED lighting delivers a large-format, bright and high-contrast image. This lighting is integrated in the two instruments. An additional light source is not necessary and this reduces costs and weight since light cables and camera head are no longer required, as is still the case with the Fiber URS. This elimination of the light cable also provides greater freedom of movement for the surgeon.

Richard Wolf GmbH is a mid-sized company manufacturing medical instruments. It employs a workforce of more than 1,500 employees and maintains a global network of fourteen subsidiaries and 130 foreign representatives. The company develops, manufactures and markets a large range of products for endoscopy and extracorporeal shock wave treatment in human medicine. Integrated Operating Room Systems complete the product portfolio.
