KTWU-DT, a PBS affiliate station that is owned and operated by Washburn University of Topeka, has installed a new intercom solution from Riedel Communications. Riedel is one of the leading manufacturers of intercom, audio and fiber technology. The Performer intercom matrix that KTWU chose replaces the existing equipment.
To provide a versatile communications infrastructure and to integrate the control room and various studios, KTWU used a Performer 32+16 intercom matrix system. Performer is a powerful and cost effective intercom matrix featuring up to 32x32 ports providing broadcast quality digital audio. KTWU's system offers digital connections for seven Artist DCP 5000 series control panels. In addition, two Riedel Connect Solo interfaces integrate POTS telephone lines into the intercom installation. A C44plus system interface seamlessly integrates a digital partyline installation with the matrix intercom. The partyline portion of the installation consists of two Performer CW-2 wallmount speaker headset stations and six Performer C3 beltpacks. 13 ultralight AIR headsets complete the installation.
"What was important to us was to not only find something that replaces our old intercom solution, but also a system that reflects our technological demands. The flexible and versatile approach of Riedel's Performer intercom technology is not only costeffective, but it also allows the seamless integration of partyline and matrix intercom equipment," said Duane Loyd, Director of Engineering at KTWU.
The system is already installed and is being used for KTWU's broadcast.
