MediorNet combines signal transport, routing and signal processing and conversion into one integrated real-time network. MediorNet is not designed just for simple point-to-point links but offers a real network solution. This includes signal routing, allowing the user to send any incoming signal to any output or even to multiple outputs by just a mouse-click or, even more conveniently, by a router control system. Each MediorNet mainframe provides a router for 32x32 720p/1080i signals, 160x160 SD-SDI signals, 27,000x27,000 AES signals or any combination of these.
MediorNet has an open network topology, supporting ring, star, daisy-chain or any combination of these. This allows the user to design the system exactly to his requirements. MediorNet offers Link Cards with and without integrated CWDM multiplexing to network MediorNet mainframes with a bandwidth of up to 153 GBit/s on a single fiber link. A MediorNet fiber link always consists of duplex fiber to allow bi-directional signal transport. MediorNet's standard fiber transceivers have an optical budget of 18 dB minimum, allowing for distances of up to 25 miles (40 km). Transceivers for longer distances are optionally available. MediorNet's routing algorithm is always looking for the shortest path to transport a signal and optimizes the bandwidth of all fiber links available. This includes hops over other MediorNet nodes, when no direct fiber connection from the source to the destination is available.
MediorNet also includes software-based broadcast-quality processing and conversion on board. The open structure of the software allows the easy integration of future processing and conversion tools from Riedel or 3rd party manufacturers supporting the MediorNet standard, without any changes to the hardware. Ultimately this will eliminate the need for external devices. Current features include a broadcast quality HD/SD Up/Down/Cross converter with interlacing/de-interlacing, up-/down-scaling, frame synchronization and aspect ratio conversion (ARC). Furthermore MediorNet provides a Frame Store Synchonizer and a Test Pattern Generator. Text/Graphics Insertion, Multiviewer and an Audio/Data Embedder/De-Embedder feature are announced to follow soon.
MediorNet is configured, controlled and monitored by the MediorWorks software, which can be downloaded from any MediorNet mainframe via the Configuration Port of the Processing Card. This way the user always has access to the correct software version of a specific installation. MediorWorks is a JavaTM-based application, allowing any computer with a JavaTM Runtime environment such as Windows, Mac OSX or Linux to serve as the host for the application.
All MediorNet Cards provide signal monitoring and link status information, which can be monitored via the MediorWorks software, status LEDs on the cards and SNMP network management systems.
