RoodMicrotec is the first independent test house in Europe to offer a fully automated Monitored Burn-In service.
’Burn-In operations are required especially in aerospace and automotive industries where there is a need for fast access to measurement results in order to fine-tune products,’ Thorsten Bucksch (CTO) explains. RoodMicrotec supports several customers, including fabless companies and OEMs, in these operations.
By investing in a fully automatic loading & unloading system, RoodMicrotec has now fully automated the Burn-In process. This increases quality and shortens processing time. No manual steps are necessary, which optimises process safety. The process can now handle high-volume Burn-In as well as Safe Launch activities.
Safe Launch is the trend towards securing long-term quality, replacing volume production Burn-In: The ramp-up management runs highly demanding tests on a limited number of devices (e.g. 100,000 devices). If no failure occurs, further production Burn-In is waived, which represents significant cost savings.
This is essential in the current market situation and results in a clear competitive advantage for the customer.
In-situ measurements during the Burn-In stress phase allow for fast turnaround times and build an early warning system, particularly during the ramp-up of new products. Expert process engineers support the customer by means of data evaluation and delivering reports with corrective actions.
The automated system has a throughput of up to 5000 devices per hour which is 10x faster compared to manual operation.
Burn-In at competitive prices at faster throughput appears attractive to customers. “From cost point of view we are comparable to the Far East, while at the same time delivering the usual high level of European quality,’ is how Thorsten Bucksch describes the benefits of the service at RoodMicrotec.
