The New SMAC LBS17 Offers Accuracy Down to the Nanometer

(PresseBox) (Crawley, )
SMAC Moving Coil Actuators has introduced details for their new LBS17 series linear slide actuator with no backlash. The LBS17 was designed for biotech and science scanning and lens adjustment applications, as a cost-effective alternative to ball-screw/servo/stepper motor solutions.

LBS17 Series Linear Slide Actuator Specs:
  • Stroke:  5 mm
  • Encoder Resolution: 5µm (standard), 1µm, 0.1µm, and 0.05µm (optional)
  • Peak Force: 13.5 N @ 24VDC, 1.4A
  • Moving Mass: 0.028 kg
  • Total Mass: 0.220 kg
  • Cycle Life: > 100 million
The LBS17 features a cross roller guide, a 0.1 micron encoder (other options available) and was developed utilizing SMAC’s new “MCA Inside” technology, which was designed specifically as a drop-in replacement of ball screw actuators, using superior electric voice coil technology.

Applications that have been served best using the LBS17 include scanning, lens focusing, and vision positioning.

SMAC’s built-in feedback system gives SMAC’s devices the unique mechatronic ability to “perform a task and verify its quality at the same time.” This would allow the actuators to quality check key processes 100% in real time and feedback the results.

SMAC Moving Coil Actuators is primarily known for their precision actuators with unique capabilities such as programmable and controllable position, velocity, and force, high accelerations, cycle life well over 100M, and a patent-pending “Soft-Land” capability for handling delicate parts, performing fragile part assembly, measurement, etc.

SMAC actuators incorporate programmable speeds, positions and forces with data feedback. This makes them ideal for a wide range of positioning, measuring, and inspection applications, particularly where 100% verification is required.
