What will change with the PSD2?
As part of the PSD2, payment service providers undertake to carry out "strong customer authentication" for Internet payments.
Strong customer authentication" is mainly implemented as "two-factor authentication".
Two-factor authentication for secure online payments
As the name suggests, authentication in two-factor authentication is performed using two factors. For example, one factor can be a PIN and the other a TAN. What actually distinguishes the two factors is the transmission path. Only if PIN and TAN are transmitted on two different channels, a two factor authentication is given.
What do online merchants have to consider?
First and foremost, payment service providers must adapt their procedures to the PSD2. In order for these adapted procedures to also work in online shops, affected payment plug-ins must be updated.
The responsibilities differ depending on the shop system and payment service provider.
