For the second time in the company’s history, workshop 1 – the so called Dr.-Theodor-Stiebel workshop – was erected. For the first time, the construction of this workshop was started in 1944 shortly before the end of World War II – in those days regarded as a symbol for a new beginning and a courageous step of the company founder, Dr. Theodor Stiebel, pointing the way to the future. Until the seventies, water heaters were produced in this workshop.
Now, the company takes again another step pointing the way to the future – to the future with renewable energies. In these days of climate change, new directions in energy policy, and constantly rising energy prices, the demand for heat pumps heavily increases throughout Europe. The future belongs to heating systems making use of renewable energies.
More than thirty years ago, STIEBEL ELTRON has already started to develop appliances for using renewable energies. Nowadays, the company is among the leading suppliers of heat pumps for central heatings, water heating systems, and ventilation systems with heat recovery as well as thermal solar systems.
With its ten million Euro project – the greatest independent investment within the thirty years old history of the heat pump – the market leader sets a new trend for the production site Germany. The new production lines will then be used to produce nearly 70 different types of heat pumps for Germany and the international business of the STIEBEL ELTRON group. A number figure which will nearly double within the next months thanks to new products and special export versions.
Already when planning the new manufacturing plant, the officials in charge not only kept an eye on economic efficiency, but also used environment-friendly materials to a large extent. The manufacturing plant was constructed according to low-energy standards which certainly cannot be assumed for buildings of this size. With the help of a powerful heat recovery system, released waste heat is used for heating purposes. Nothing but this measure results in energy savings of several ten thousand Euros per year.
Inclusive of the jobs created anew, almost 1,500 employees are producing units relating to the business fields of renewable energies, DHW, and central heating in Holzminden. The focus of the STIEBEL ELTRON group – with its total turnover of more than 417 million Euros and more than 3,000 employees all over the world – is the Stiebel Eltron GmbH & Co. KG as well as the Stiebel Eltron International GmbH with their national and international distribution and marketing organizations. The sons of the company founder Frank and Dr. Ulrich Stiebel are the co-owners of the company.
