TAIYO YUDEN Achieves the World’s First 330μF Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor

Leading the Production of High-capacity Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors in the Super High Highend

(PresseBox) (Tokyo, )
TOKYO, September 12, 2013 - TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD. announced the commercial release of the 330μF-capacitance EIA 1210 size AMK325ABJ337MM (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5mm) as another addition to its super high-end product group of high-capacity multilayer ceramic capacitors (over 100μF).
We have improved the capacitance by over 50% in the same size capacitor as compared to TAIYO YUDEN’s product AMK325ABJ227MM (200μF capacitance). The large capacitance 330μF super high-end product is the first of its kind in the world. (Note - survey conducted August 2013 by TAIYO YUDEN.)

This product is used to smooth the output and ensure the stable operation in power supplies used in various devices. The applications for these power supplies include industrial equipment such as surveillance cameras and broadcast equipment, as well as information-related devices like PCs and
servers, and all-in-one printers. Production will commence at the company’s Tamamura plant in Gunma prefecture from September 2013 onward at a production rate of one million units per month.

Technology Background
To improve device efficiency a large number of digital devices are now being provided with switchingtype power supply circuits. Power supply circuits use combinations of high capacitance-capacitors to smooth the output and ensure the stable operation of a device. Generally, multilayer ceramic capacitors have a low ESR and superior frequency characteristics as compared to tantalum or aluminum electrolytic capacitors and are effective as smoothing capacitors for controlling the ripple current in increasingly high-frequency power circuits.

At TAIYO YUDEN, we are the leader in the market in material technology. We are able to achieve consistent high accuracy and we are now able to announce the capacitance of 330μF in our super high product line-up. This is the first in the world in multilayer ceramic capacitors. The current commercial release has contributed to a smaller size of devices through a reduction in the number of
smoothing capacitors and replacement from electrolytic capacitors.

TAIYO YUDEN will continue to make further additions to its line-up of super high-end, highcapacity multilayer ceramic capacitor products with a capacitance in excess of 100μF, and we intend to the continued develop of higher capacity products up to 1000μF. This product will be on display at the TAIYO YUDEN booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2013 to be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba city, Chiba prefecture) from October 1st of this year.

■ Main Applications
For power smoothing in a variety of devices including industrial equipment such as surveillance cameras and broadcasting equipment, as well as PCs, servers, all-in-one printers, and other information-related devices.
