- Mobile World Congress

The Wireless Power Consortium ("WPC") today welcomed Orange Telecom to its growing member list of more than 70 leading consumer electronics and technology companies from around the world. European mobile network operator Orange joins leading U.S. service provider Verizon Wireless in support of Qi (pronounced "chee"), the global standard for wireless charging.

"We are delighted to welcome Orange to the Wireless Power Consortium," said WPC Chairman Menno Treffers. "The engagement of mobile service providers brings the benefits of wireless charging rapidly to a very large group of consumers."

The WPC also announced that members are demonstrating new products and prototypes using its universal wireless charging standard, Qi (pronounced "chee") at the 2011 Mobile World Congress. As the world's universal wireless charging standard, Qi brings simplicity, convenience, and flexibility to consumers because it ensures interoperability between any Qi-enabled device and any Qi charger, regardless of brand or manufacturer.

The WPC will show the following select compatible devices and transmitters at MobileFocus Global on February 14th at Rey Juan Carlos Hotel:

Energizer Blackberry® 8900 inductive battery door, iPhone® 3 and iPhone® 4 sleeves, as well as their recently launched Inductive Charger and accessories

- Fulton Innovation transmitter
- Leggett & Platt Helios(TM) wireless chargers
- Texas Instruments bqTESLA(TM) wireless power reference design and evaluation kit
- Sanyo transmitter and battery packs
- LG Phone and Transmitter
- Philips mobile phone and Transmitter

WPC member Continental Automotive is demonstrating a built-in Qi vehicle wireless charger for a prototype mobile phone at the NXP Semiconductor booth in Hall 1, 1F14.

WPC members also look to incorporate Qi into a wide range of infrastructure settings, including homes, hotels, airports, convenience stores and restaurant chains. In December 2010, Leggett & Platt unveiled Qi-enabled charging surfaces at the Windsor Airport in Canada.
