Quality management: trans-o-flex successfully completes changeover to new ISO standard

The logistics group trans-o-flex has taken its quality and environmental management to a new level and standardised it. To this end, the certification company BSI Group Germany not only audited the trans-o-flex companies for almost one month with the routine surveillance audit, but also subjected it to a transition audit. This term is used by quality experts to denote the changeover of a system to the requirements of revised standards. The certification according to the latest quality and environmental management standards DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 was accorded directly. "At the same time, we have harmonised the certification processes within our group, which will offer us many advantages in future", says Wolfgang P. Albeck, CEO of trans-o-flex.

As part of BSI's external audit, the quality management systems of trans-o-flex Express, trans-o-flex Logistik-Service and trans-o-flex ThermoMed (specialist for actively temperature-controlled shipments at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius) were merged. Until now, there had been two separate QM systems, one for ThermoMed on the one hand and another for Express as well as Logistik-Service on the other hand. "As a result, the annual external audit now takes place for all companies at the same time and we only have to maintain one system manual in which all relevant processes of the various trans-o-flex companies are defined", explains Albeck. Another advantage is that the contact persons from the quality management departments of Express, Logistik and ThermoMed can work on processes across companies.

The background to the transition audit was that in 2015 the ISO standards 9001 and 14001 were completely revised. Recertification under the old standard would no longer have been possible, as the maximum transitional period to the revised standard is three years.

Both nationally and internationally, trans-o-flex, in contrast to 100-% parcel services or forwarding agencies, delivers both goods in parcels and on pallets and also offers special services, such as the transportation of hazardous goods (without being limited to small quantities), express and time-window deliveries, shipment consolidation as well as direct deliveries. Thus, the company covers the entire logistic chain from procurement and warehousing to distribution and fulfilment.
