Backhaus replaces Steiner
Wolfgang Backhaus studied Economic Geography and Sociology at the RWTH Aachen University and was subsequently responsible for the coordination and project management of numerous EU projects. As part of his academic career, he completed his dissertation and change manager training in 2012.
Since 2009 he has been working for Rupprecht Consult GmbH as project manager and project developer in the field of electromobility with a special focus on electric public transport. It was during this time that he came into contact with the trolley:motion association, with which he has successfully carried out projects over the past ten years.
His training makes him the ideal successor to Daniel Steiner. Born in Switzerland in 1950, Steiner completed his mechanical engineering studies at the ETH in 1975. Daniel Steiner was then employed by Brown Boveri before joining Kummler+Matter AG in 1981, where he was Managing Director from 1998 to 2015 until he reached retirement age. The resignation from his position at trolley:motion was therefore only a logical consequence. With his knowledge and experience he is still available to Mr. Backhaus as Honorary President.
Wolfgang Backhaus wants to make trolley systems fit for the future
As the new president of trolley:motion, Wolfgang Backhaus sees trolley systems as part of an intelligent city and wants to make them fit for the future. For him, this includes not only a stronger integration of the energy and transport worlds, which makes trolley bus systems a backbone for sustainable mobility in cities, but also the integration of new trends such as Mobility as a Service and Shared Mobility Services, for which trolley systems can be a link for the first and last "mile".
"With in-motion charging and smart energy management concepts, trolleybus systems are taking the next step towards sustainable mobility for smart cities and regions. In addition to ongoing expansions and modernizations of existing trolleybus systems, which we already support, we also hope to introduce new systems in Europe in the near future," explains Dr. Wolfgang Backhaus.
Michel Mohler also a new member of the Executive Board
In addition to Wolfgang Backhaus, Michel Mohler joins the Executive Board as a new member. He has been head of the City Projects business unit at Kummler+Matter AG since 2019. Prior to that, he gained extensive experience as head of the electronics, urban transport project planning and city engineering departments at Kummler+Matter AG.
