TÜV Rheinland successfully completed the accreditation process at the beginning of August 2018. In the course of the process, the company proved that it has successfully implemented all new requirements - both those of the standard itself and the new requirements of the certification process. The auditors who carry out audits in companies also received appropriate training. "ISO 45001 comprises some innovations compared to the OHSAS 18001 used so far, and TÜV Rheinland auditors were also required to deal intensively with the new aspects", explains Anja Oels, product manager for ISO 45001 at TÜV Rheinland.
Compared to OHSAS 18001, the new ISO 45001 follows the high-level structure already used in other management systems such as ISO 9001. Companies have to put more emphasis on chances and risks and on management’s responsibility. "The radius of an organisation has been extended and must be considered from a security perspective", says Anja Oels. For companies wishing to change from OHSAS 18001 to the new ISO 45001, TÜV Rheinland offers a gap analysis. This provides valuable information on the current status and about necessary improvements.
